Why
you should come
You should come to Petites
Côtes because the whole area provides peace and tranquillity plus
an almost unlimited list of things to do and see. Once you drive from
the village of Verteillac along a country road with virtually no traffic
and down the lane to the domaine you sense that you are almost entering
another world.
The three properties are situated
in a small valley surrounded by trees, fields, scenic hills, rivers and
small streams - the perfect place to simply relax and unwind as there
is plenty of space - but if you want action the list of things to do is
endless. Within easy reach - prehistoric sites - chateaux and ancient
churches - pretty towns such as Aubeterre, Brantôme and Bergerac
- the caves of Bergerac and the wine growing regions - parks and gardens
and every kind of sporting activity - walking, cycling, horse riding,
tennis, golf (9 holes,) shooting and most water
sports are all less than 20 minutes drive away. There are lovely sandy
riverside beaches at Aubeterre and Lisle with river swimming.
The larger towns of Angoulême
(capital of the Charente), Périgueux (the capital of Périgord)
and Limoges are all within driving range and if you want to travel further
afield, the Dordogne Valley itself.
There are many "fêtes" and weekly markets throughout the
region and nearer to home Ribérac (20 minutes drive) is one of
the best markets (Fridays) in this part of France.
Of course, this is rural France and there is an abundance of wildlife
and with it comes a plethora of flora - for example - "les orchidées
du Perigord" grow in this area mainly in April and May. Birds are plentiful and range from short toed eagles and buzzards to tiny flycatchers.
The locality has a very good selection of restaurants and details are available
at the domaine. We regularly update the list with comments from those who
have been to them.
Verteillac is a small town of some 2,000 people and provides almost everything
that you may need for daily living. There is a bank, boulangerie, general
store, butcher, post office, pharmacy, hairdresser, garage and a newspaper
shop. There are two "brocantes," an art gallery, two restaurants
and three bars.
There is a Catholic church in Verteillac and an English church at Bertric Burée(8kms) which have weekly services.
